SCHOLARSHIP FUND

For more than 50 years, Camp Harlam has positively and meaningfully impacted the lives of thousands by promoting a warm and supportive environment where children of all ages feel free to express themselves and explore their role within the Jewish community and beyond. Camp Harlam takes great pride in its ability to create an environment where “friends become family” for its campers and staff, and is more committed than ever before to make this experience possible for each and every child that is interested no matter their ability to afford the expense.  In just the last year, Camp Harlam, its congregational partners and special foundations that support Jewish Camp saw more than $650,000 contributed to subsidize a summer at Camp Harlam for hundreds of children.

Giving to these scholarship efforts is a critical means of supporting camp, and we are pleased to share that as of 2012, we have dedicated our primary Scholarship Fund in name to the memory of one of our finest community members, Mitch Perlmeter.  The Mitch Perlmeter Scholarship Fund has been established to support various financial assistance efforts and is inspired by the life and character of our former camper and Machon participant, Mitch.  Please see more information below.

50TH ANNIVERSARY FUND

In 1958 the Joseph and Betty Harlam Camp Institute opened its gates for the first time to both campers and staff members. Facilities were built over time to make sure that the campers coming to Camp would have the best summer of their lives. Now, half a century later, new and returning campers are coming through Camp’s gates and we want them to have the best possible experience we can offer.

Help us celebrate our 50th anniversary by donating to the 50th Anniversary fund. Money donated to this fund will go towards Camp’s imminent needs which may include but are not limited to: creative and exciting new programs, capital projects and scholarship needs.

Mitch Perlmeter Scholarship Fund

The Camp Harlam community suffered a great loss when Mitch Perlmeter of Montclair, NJ passed away suddenly on February 1, 2011. Mitch had been at Camp Harlam most of his life, was a CIT (Machon particpant) in 2010 and was to have been a counselor in 2012. Mitch was the son of Rabbis Rex Perlmeter and Rachel Hertzman and brother of Jackie, Sarah and Nathaniel. We will truly miss Mitch’s energy and enthusiasm for camp and life and his constant smile, and have cemented his memory at camp through the establishment of the Mitch Perlmeter Scholarship Fund.  Additionally, we continue to celebrate his life through the Mitch Perlmeter Leadership Award and through various efforts at camp.

The leadership of Camp Harlam has always been committed to providing a state-of-the-art experience for our campers. Over the years we have been able to add exciting new buildings to Camp but we now find ourselves at a point where there is a great need to either refurbish or rebuild a number of our existing structures.

Money donated to the Capital Fund will be used to refurbish and rebuild Harlam’s facilities in order to allow us to do what we do best by providing the best possible facilities for our campers.
